Which barcode scanners work with Slaby?
Any USB or Bluetooth scanner that types the code like a keyboard, which is most of them. Plug it in, scan, and the item is added to the bill. Type 3* before a scan to add three at once.
No scanner? Scan with the phone or tablet camera from the billing screen.
What if my items don't have barcodes?
Slaby can generate a barcode for any product or size that has none. The codes are EAN-13 numbers in the range kept for in-store use, so every common scanner reads them and they stay the same even if you rename the item.
An unknown barcode at the counter can be added as a new item on the spot, with its name, price and GST.
How do I print barcode labels?
Select products, choose a layout and print from your browser on any printer.
- A4 sticker sheets: 14, 21, 24 or 40 labels per sheet.
- Thermal label rolls: 50 × 25 mm, 38 × 25 mm or 58 mm wide.
- Each label shows the name, size, price and barcode.
Can I print bills on a thermal printer?
Yes, straight from the browser with no print window. Connect the printer once in the counter's printer settings, and each bill prints as soon as you finish it if you switch on auto-print. Press F9 to print the last bill again.
No printer at all? Send the bill as a WhatsApp link with a PDF the customer can keep.
- USB thermal printers: Chrome or Edge on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer.
- Bluetooth thermal printers: Chrome on Android. Pair the printer once.
- Network printers: through a small print bridge running on a computer in the shop.
- Paper cut after every bill and cash drawer opening on cash bills, if your printer has them.
- Any other printer, and A4 bills, print through the browser's print window.

What do shops ask about barcodes and printing?
Do I need a special billing printer?
No. A common 58 or 80 mm thermal printer that connects by USB or Bluetooth prints directly. Any other printer the device can use, including a normal A4 printer, prints through the browser's print window.
Can I print without the print window popping up each time?
Yes. Connect a USB printer from Chrome or Edge on a computer, or a Bluetooth printer from Chrome on Android, and bills print straight away. If the printer isn't reachable, Slaby falls back to the print window so you can still print.
Can the printer open my cash drawer?
Yes, if the drawer plugs into the printer. Switch on Open cash drawer in the printer settings and it opens on cash bills.
Can each size and colour have its own barcode?
Yes. Every size and colour can have its own barcode and quantity, so scanning a label adds that exact piece to the bill.
Can I use the barcodes already printed on packets?
Yes. Enter or scan the barcode on the product once, and scanning the packet at the counter adds it to the bill.
