Change the banners on your home page
The big rotating pictures at the top of your home page: add a banner with a heading and a button, link it to a category or sale, hide it when the offer ends and choose the order.
What the Banners page is for
Banners are the big pictures at the top of your home page. With more than one, they rotate by themselves. Use them for a sale, new stock or a festival offer, with a button that takes shoppers straight to the right products.
The page edits the banner your home page actually shows. Most stores use the standard home page, with "Add banner". If your store uses the template home page (Settings → Storefront template), the page shows "Your home page slides" instead. Both are explained below.
- You need the "Manage collections" permission.
Add your first banner in 5 steps
- 1
Click Add banner
Catalog → Banners
On the template home page the button is "Add your first slide" or "Add slide".
- 2
Type the words
Title is the big line, for example "Diwali sale — up to 40% off". Subtitle is the smaller line under it.
- 3
Add the picture
Upload a wide picture, about 1600×640. No picture? Leave it empty and pick a Backdrop colour, Text colour and Button colour instead.
- 4
Add the button
Type the Button label, like "Shop the sale", and the page it opens in "Button link (store-relative)", like /c/kurtas or /search?q=silk. Start the link with /.
- 5
Save and check
Click "Save banner". Use Order to place it: lower numbers show first. Open your home page to see it.
Banner fields (standard home page)
- Title
- The big text on the banner.e.g. New monsoon stock
- Subtitle
- A smaller line under the title. Optional.e.g. Raincoats from ₹499
- Backdrop colour
- The background colour when there is no picture. Text colour and Button colour work the same way. Use a colour code.e.g. #1e40af
- Show on
- Only for stores with both a wholesale and a retail storefront: show the banner on both, or only one.e.g. Retail storefront only
- Order
- The position in the rotation. Lower numbers show first.e.g. 1
Hide a banner without losing it
Click Hide on a banner when the offer ends. It stops showing but stays saved; click Show to bring it back next year. Delete (the bin) removes it for good.
With no banners showing, your home page shows its standard banner.
If your store uses the template home page
The page shows "Your home page slides" with a Preview beside it. You can have up to 5 slides. Change the order by dragging a slide, or with "Move up" and "Move down". Hide keeps a slide saved but stops showing it.
Your changes are not live until you save. A bar at the bottom says "You have unsaved changes." Click "Save changes" to update your home page, or "Discard changes" to go back.
If your home page has more than one banner area, pick the one to edit under "Banner area". If an area is turned off, its slides don't show until you turn it on in Storefront template. Text position, darkening and the main button are also set there, under Hero banner.
Slide fields (template home page)
- Picture
- The slide's picture. Wide pictures work best, about 1600×640.e.g. A sale poster
- Picture for phones (optional)
- A tall or square version, so phones show the whole picture instead of cropping it.e.g. 1080×1080
- Heading
- The big text on the slide. Blank uses your store tagline.e.g. Festive edit
- Small line above the heading
- A short label over the heading.e.g. NEW ARRIVALS
- Describe the picture
- Read out by screen readers. Blank is fine for a picture that is only decoration.e.g. Model wearing a red silk saree
"Old banners (not shown on your store)"
If you made banners before switching to the template home page, they sit in this closed box. The template home page doesn't show them. Click "Use as slides" to copy them into your slides (up to 5 in all), or "Delete old banners" to remove them for good.
Find the right button link Open your store, go to the page you want the banner to open (a category, a search, a collection), and copy the part of the address after your domain, for example /c/kurtas. Paste that into the button link.
