Put your store on your own domain
Run your storefront on your own address (like www.yourshop.in) instead of yourstore.slaby.in. You add two or three DNS records at the company you bought the domain from; Slaby checks them and sets up the secure https certificate for you.
About 15 minutes of clicks, then up to an hour (rarely 48 hours) for DNS to update.
Before you start
- A domain you own — bought from GoDaddy, Hostinger, BigRock, Namecheap, Cloudflare or any other registrar.
- The login for wherever that domain's DNS is managed. This is usually the registrar, but if you ever moved the domain's nameservers (for example to Cloudflare or your old website host), it is THAT company.
- Owner or manage-settings access to your Slaby admin.
Step by step
- 1
Decide which address buyers will type
Before you start
You can use the bare domain (yourshop.in) or a subdomain (www.yourshop.in, or shop.yourbrand.com if your main website lives elsewhere).
If you add the bare domain, Slaby also serves www.yourshop.in as the same store, and asks you for the record that makes www work too.
- 2
Add the domain in Slaby
In your Slaby admin
Go to Settings → Custom domains, type the domain without https:// (for example yourshop.in), and click Add.
A card appears for the domain with a small table of DNS records — Type, Name and Value — each with a Copy button. Keep this page open; you will copy from it in the next step.
- Bare domain (yourshop.in): an A record with Name @, a CNAME record with Name www, and a TXT record.
- Subdomain (www.yourshop.in or shop.yourbrand.com): a CNAME record for that name, and a TXT record.
- The TXT record proves you own the domain. The A / CNAME records send visitors to your store.
- 3
Open your domain's DNS settings
At your domain registrar
Sign in where your DNS is managed and open the DNS (or 'Manage DNS', 'DNS Zone Editor', 'Advanced DNS') page for the domain. The links below go to the official instructions for the most common registrars.
- GoDaddy: Domain Portfolio → your domain → DNS → Add New Record.
- Namecheap: Domain List → Manage → Advanced DNS → Add New Record.
- Cloudflare: your domain → DNS → Records → Add record.
- Hostinger / BigRock / others: look for 'DNS Zone', 'DNS Management' or 'Manage DNS'.
- 4
Add each record exactly as Slaby shows it
At your domain registrar
For each row in Slaby's table, create a record of the same Type, paste the Name into the registrar's Name / Host field, and paste the Value into its Value / Points to / Target field. Leave TTL at its default.
If a record with the same Type and Name already exists — typically an A record for @ or a CNAME for www that still points at Shopify, Wix, WordPress or a parking page — EDIT that record to the new value instead of adding a second one. Two A records for @ means some buyers land on the old site.
- Name @ means the bare domain itself. Some registrars want it left blank instead.
- Most registrars add your domain to the Name automatically, so type only what Slaby shows (www, not www.yourshop.in).
- The TXT value is long — always use the Copy button rather than retyping it.
Using Cloudflare? Set the A and CNAME records to 'DNS only' (grey cloud), not 'Proxied' (orange cloud). A proxied record hides where your domain points, so Slaby cannot confirm it and cannot issue your https certificate.
- 5
Click Verify
In your Slaby admin
Back on Settings → Custom domains, click Verify on the domain's card. When the TXT record is found the domain turns Active.
Under the status, Slaby also checks where the domain points right now. If it says the domain still points somewhere else (and names the old host when it can), the A or CNAME record has not been changed yet — fix it at the registrar and check again.
DNS changes usually appear within an hour, occasionally up to 48 hours. If Verify says the record is not found yet, wait and try again — you do not need to delete and re-add the domain.
- 6
Open your store on the new address
In your browser
Visit https://yourshop.in (and https://www.yourshop.in). The secure https certificate is created automatically once the records point at Slaby — give it a few minutes after the domain turns Active.
Then update the address everywhere buyers find you: your Google Business profile, Instagram bio, WhatsApp Business profile, printed cards. If you set up Razorpay, Cashfree or Google tools with your old address, update the website there too.
What the records look like
- A record (bare domain only)
Name: @ Value: the IP address shown in your admin (usually 76.76.21.21)- CNAME record
Name: www (or your subdomain) Value: the target shown in your admin (usually cname.vercel-dns.com)- TXT record
Name and Value: copy both exactly from your adminThe value is unique to your store and changes if you remove and re-add the domain.
Always copy from your own admin — the table there is generated for your exact domain and is what Slaby checks against. If your DNS host suggests a longer vercel-dns address for the CNAME, that works too.
Test it
- 1.The domain card in Settings → Custom domains shows Active.
- 2.The line under it says the domain points to your store (not to another host).
- 3.https://yourshop.in opens your storefront with a padlock in the address bar, and so does the www version.
- 4.Your old yourstore.slaby.in address keeps working, so links you shared earlier do not break.
If something goes wrong
Verify keeps saying the TXT record is not found.
Why it happens: DNS has not updated yet, the record was added at the wrong company, or the Name was typed with the domain repeated (for example …yourshop.in.yourshop.in).
How to fix it: Wait up to an hour and retry. Check which company your domain's nameservers point to and add the record there. Make sure the Name field contains only what Slaby shows.
Verify says the TXT record has a different value.
Why it happens: An old or mistyped value — often from an earlier attempt.
How to fix it: Edit the TXT record and paste the value again with the Copy button. Delete any older TXT record with the same name.
The domain is Active but still shows my old website (Shopify, Wix, WordPress…).
Why it happens: Ownership is proven, but the A or CNAME record still points at the old host.
How to fix it: Edit the existing A record for @ (and the CNAME for www) to the values in your admin. Do not leave the old record in place alongside the new one.
The browser warns that the connection is not private.
Why it happens: The https certificate is issued only after the records point at Slaby, or a Cloudflare proxy is in the way.
How to fix it: Wait a few minutes after the domain turns Active. If you use Cloudflare, switch the records to DNS only.
My email stopped working after I changed DNS.
Why it happens: An MX or email-related record was deleted or changed by mistake. Slaby never asks you to touch MX records.
How to fix it: Restore your email provider's MX / TXT records. Only add or edit the A, CNAME and TXT records Slaby lists.

Common questions
- Will my yourstore.slaby.in address stop working?
- No. Your free address keeps working alongside your own domain, so any links you already shared still open your store.
- Do I need to buy an SSL certificate?
- No. The https certificate for your domain is created and renewed automatically once the DNS records point at Slaby.
- Can I keep my email (Google Workspace, Zoho, etc.) on the same domain?
- Yes. Slaby only needs the A, CNAME and TXT records it lists. Leave your MX and other email records exactly as they are.
- My main website is elsewhere. Can the store live on a subdomain?
- Yes — add shop.yourbrand.com (or any subdomain). You only add a CNAME and a TXT record, and your main website is untouched.
