Link-in-bio page or online store: what your one Instagram link should open
The Slaby team5 min read
Instagram gives every profile a link in the bio, and for most buyers it is the only place they will tap. Link-in-bio tools turn it into a small page of buttons: your WhatsApp, your latest reel, a form, a sale. That is useful for creators with many destinations.
For a seller, every one of those buttons still ends in the same place: a conversation before anyone can pay. If selling is the point of your account, the link should open something people can buy from.
Side by side: what a tap on your bio link gets the buyer
- Prices
- Link page: only if you type them on a button
Store: on every product, always current
- Sizes and stock
- Link page: ask in a DM
Store: chosen on the product, sold-out sizes shown as sold out
- The total
- Link page: worked out in chat
Store: the cart adds delivery and any COD fee before payment
- Payment
- Link page: a UPI ID or payment link sent by you
Store: UPI with the amount filled in, a gateway, or COD, at checkout
- Address
- Link page: typed into chat
Store: a form that requires a complete address and 6-digit pincode
- Tracking
- Link page: 'where is my order?' messages
Store: a tracking page with order number and phone
When a link-in-bio page is enough
- You sell a handful of things and take very few orders a week.
- Most of what you link is content — a podcast, a YouTube channel, a newsletter.
- You already have a store and just need one more button next to it.
When it starts costing you orders
- Followers tap the link, see buttons, and still have to message you for prices.
- You keep adding a button for each new collection.
- You need to know what is in stock without checking your notebook.
- You want the order, payment and address to arrive together.
- Two buyers paid for the same last piece, and you had to refund one.
Get both from one link
A store can do a link page's job. Every Slaby store has a /links page made for phones: your logo, then Shop all, Chat on WhatsApp, Track my order and Follow us on Instagram buttons, then the products you pin and your featured collections — all inside the store, so every tap is one step from checkout.
You choose up to twelve pinned products in Settings → Sales channels. Pin what your current reels and posts show, so 'link in bio' leads straight to the piece the buyer just saw. Visits from the page are tagged as Instagram bio traffic, so they show up in your campaign reports without any setup.
With stock holding on, a piece is taken off stock the moment an order is placed, so the last-piece double sale cannot happen.
What to pin, and when to change it
Treat the pinned products like a shop window. Pin the pieces from your last few posts first, then one or two steady bestsellers. When a reel takes off, move that product to the top the same day. When a piece sells out, unpin it, or leave it pinned if buyers can ask to be emailed when it is back in stock. A quick check once a week keeps the page matching your feed.
Set up your bio link in an afternoon
- 1
Pick a store address close to your handle
Your store works on a Slaby subdomain, included on every plan. If your handle is @kavya.threads, a store address with kavya-threads in it is easy for buyers to recognise. Your own domain is available from the Starter plan.
- 2
Add the products people ask about most
Start with ten: photos, price, sizes and stock. Add the rest over the next week.
- 3
Add your WhatsApp number
Settings → Branding
Enter your contact phone with +91. The WhatsApp button on /links and on each product opens a chat with you; on a product it names the item.

Pick the pieces from your current posts, in the order you want them shown.
- 5
Put the link in your bio
In Instagram, edit your profile and add your store's /links address (or the home page) as your link. Add one line above it: 'Prices, sizes and orders here'.
- 6
Use story link stickers for the rest
For a new drop or a single product, a story with a link sticker to that product page beats sending people to look for it.
Make it feel like an app. Buyers can install your store on their home screen like an app, and you can do the same with your admin, so checking orders from your phone is one tap.
Common questions
- Can I use a link-in-bio tool and a store together?
- Yes. Make the store the first button, or make the store's /links page your bio link and put the extras there. Fewer taps before the product means more orders.
- Is a store harder to set up than a link page?
- A little — you add products with prices and stock. On Slaby you can start with your ten bestsellers in an afternoon and add the rest later.
- Does my store link need its own domain?
- No. A Slaby store works on a Slaby subdomain, included on every plan. Your own domain is available on Starter and above if you want one.
- Will my followers trust a store link?
- A store with clear prices, policies, a familiar checkout and a WhatsApp button usually feels safer than sending money to a UPI ID in a chat.
- Can my bio link show products from my Instagram posts automatically?
- Not yet — Instagram import is not available. You add products yourself, by hand or by CSV import, and pin the ones from your posts on /links.
