Your udhaar book: who owes you, and getting paid
Every customer who owes you money, how old each amount is, one-tap WhatsApp reminders, receiving payments that clear the oldest bills first, and a statement link or PDF for the customer.
What the Udhaar page is for
Udhaar is money a customer owes you for goods taken now and paid later. The Udhaar page lists every customer with money due, the biggest amounts first.
At the top you see Total due, Overdue, Customers with udhaar and the amount Over 90 days. Below that, a bar shows how old the udhaar is.
Click a customer to open their udhaar book: what is due, the unpaid bills, every entry, and the buttons to receive a payment, remind them and share a statement.
- Udhaar shows in the menu for staff who can bill at the counter. The page itself needs "View customers".
- To open it you need "View customers". To receive a payment you need "Edit customers". Export CSV needs "Export data".
- A customer can buy on udhaar only when two things are set. First, Offer business credit must be on for your store: it is off for a new store, so turn it on in Settings → Advanced settings (search "business credit"). Second, give the customer a credit limit on their page in Customers.
- Nothing on the list page moves money. Payments are received on the customer's udhaar page.
Collect an udhaar payment in 4 steps
- 1
Open the customer
Udhaar → the customer's row
Search by name or phone if the list is long. Their page shows Due now, Overdue, Credit limit and the unpaid bills.
- 2
Tap Receive payment
The window says what they owe, for example "Ramesh owes ₹1,450". Type the Amount received, or tap "Full amount".
- 3
Pick how they paid
Paid by: Cash, UPI or Card. Add a note if you like, for example "paid by son".
Cash is added to the open till, so your day's cash count stays right.
- 4
Save
Tap Save payment. The payment clears the oldest bills first, and the window shows what is still due, or "All udhaar cleared."
You can't receive more than is due. A larger amount is refused with "That is more than the … due."
How old the udhaar is
Every unpaid bill has an age: the days since it was billed. The ageing bar splits the total into 0–30 days, 31–60 days, 61–90 days and Over 90 days. Over 90 days is shown in red — that money is the hardest to collect.
Overdue needs a due date. A bill is due "Udhaar due in" days after its bill date, once that is set (Settings → Counter billing → Udhaar (credit)). Until then, the page says "No due dates are set, so nothing shows as overdue."
Filters, search and sort
- All: everyone with udhaar.
- Overdue: has an amount past its due date.
- Over 90 days: has udhaar older than 90 days.
- Over limit: owes more than their credit limit.
- Can remind now: has a mobile number, hasn't turned off WhatsApp messages and wasn't reminded in the last few days.
- Sort by Amount (biggest first), Oldest or Name.
Remind customers on WhatsApp
- 1
Tap Remind (one customer) or Remind N customers (everyone you can remind now)
A window opens with the message ready. Pick the Message language: English or हिन्दी.
- 2
Open WhatsApp and press send
Tap "Open WhatsApp". WhatsApp opens on your phone with the message, for example "Namaste Ramesh, a gentle reminder from your store: ₹1,450 is due on your account." It can include the statement link and a UPI link. You press send — nothing is sent automatically and it costs nothing.
In the queue, tap Skip to go to the next customer.
Why Remind is greyed out
- "No mobile number saved for this customer." Add it on their page in Customers.
- "This customer has turned off WhatsApp messages."
- "Reminded recently": Slaby waits 3 days (the default) between reminders, so nobody is nagged. Change "Wait between udhaar reminders" in Settings → Counter billing.
- "Nothing is due."
The udhaar book (one customer)
Due now is what they owe. Credit limit is the most they may owe ("No limit set" if none). "Can still buy on udhaar" is the limit minus what they owe. If they paid more than they owed, you see "Paid in advance" instead.
Unpaid bills lists each open bill with its age, its due date and what is left of it. The Udhaar statement lists every entry: Udhaar entry, Payment received (with how they paid), and Return / cancelled bill, each with the balance after it.
Share the statement
Under "Share the statement": Copy statement link, Share, or Download PDF. The customer opens the link on their phone, sees their bills and payments, and can pay by UPI if you saved your UPI ID.
A statement link works for 30 days by default ("Udhaar statement link works for" in Settings → Counter billing).
Udhaar settings
All in Settings → Counter billing → Udhaar (credit).

Common questions
- How do I start giving udhaar?
- Turn on Offer business credit in Settings → Advanced settings (it is off for a new store). Then open the customer in Customers and set a Credit limit. At the counter, add them with F7 and pick Udhaar (Alt+4).
- The customer paid part of the money. What do I do?
- Open them in Udhaar, tap Receive payment and type what they paid. It clears their oldest bills first; the rest stays due.
- Does Slaby send reminders by itself?
- No. Remind opens WhatsApp on your phone with the message ready, and you press send. It is free.
- Why does nothing show as Overdue?
- No due period is set. Set "Udhaar due in" in Settings → Counter billing, for example 30 days. Each unpaid bill is then due that many days after its bill date.
- Can I send the reminder in Hindi?
- Yes. Pick हिन्दी as the Message language in the reminder window.
- The customer returned goods from an udhaar bill. Is udhaar reduced?
- Yes. The return shows as "Return / cancelled bill" in their udhaar statement and lowers what they owe.
- Where does a cash udhaar payment go?
- Into the open till, so your day book and cash count stay right.
- Can I download the udhaar list?
- Yes, Export CSV on the Udhaar page. You need the "Export data" permission.
- Can the customer see their own statement?
- Yes. Copy the statement link or download the PDF from their udhaar page and send it to them.
