An online store for home bakers: menu, weights, delivery area and advance payment in one link.
Baking from home runs on a tight radius and tight timing. You cannot ship a cake across India, you need to know the weight and flavour before you buy cream, and a cancelled order on the day is a cake nobody else wants.
A store handles the rules that DMs leave fuzzy: what you deliver, where, for how much, and what is paid before you start.
Cake orders in DMs vs on a menu that takes orders
| Question | Orders over DM | Your bakery's store |
|---|---|---|
| Flavour and weight | Back-and-forth messages | Chosen from options with prices |
| Delivery area | 'Where are you?' every time | Checkout accepts only your pincodes |
| Advance | Requested, sometimes skipped | Paid at checkout, the share you set |
| Same-day capacity | You remember how many you promised | Stock per item caps how many orders come in |
| Repeat birthdays | Lost in chats | Buyer and order history in one place |

How to take cake and bake orders online
Choose the food template
Start your store with the food template, then rename categories to match your menu: cakes, cupcakes, cookies, hampers.
Add each item with options
Create one product per item and add weight and flavour as variants, each with its own price.
Limit how many you can make
Set stock to the number you can bake for the coming days. Update it each morning — it is your capacity, not a warehouse.
Set your delivery area
Add the pincode prefixes you deliver to, a delivery charge, and free delivery above an amount if you offer it.
Turn on the advance
Connect your gateway and set the share paid online for COD orders, or switch COD off so cakes are prepaid.
Write the lead time and message rule
On each product, say how far ahead to order and how to send the message for the cake.
Post the menu link
Pin the store link in your bio and share item links in reels captions as 'order from the link in bio'.
Questions sellers ask
- Can I limit delivery to my city?
- Yes. List the pincode prefixes you deliver to and the checkout will not accept addresses outside them.
- How do buyers tell me what to write on the cake?
- Switch on 'Allow requirement notes & photos' for your cakes and signed-in buyers can type the message and add a design photo to the cake in their cart. Anyone else can tap the product's WhatsApp button, which opens a chat about that cake.
- Can I take only advance orders, not same-day?
- Write the lead time on each product and set stock to what you can make. A delivery-date picker is not available yet, so confirm the date with the buyer after the order.
- How do I stop taking orders when I am fully booked?
- Set the item's stock to zero and it shows as sold out. Set it back when you have capacity.
- Do I need FSSAI registration?
- Food businesses in India generally need FSSAI registration or a licence depending on their size. Check the current FSSAI rules for your situation; you can show your number in your store information.
- Can I sell hampers for festivals?
- Yes. Add each hamper as a product with its own stock, and put festival items in a collection you feature on your home page.
- Can buyers pay the full amount online?
- Yes. Connect your Razorpay or Cashfree account and turn COD off, so every order is prepaid by UPI or card.
- Can I offer pickup instead of delivery?
- There is no separate pickup option at checkout today. Many bakers set a delivery charge for their area and arrange pickup with the buyer for local orders.
- Does it cost anything to start?
- Not for the first 14 days, and no card is needed to start. After the trial, Lite is ₹299 a month for up to 20 products, enough for a starter bakery menu, and Slaby takes 0% commission.
