A UPI online store lets buyers pay by any UPI app at checkout, and the money goes to your account.
UPI is how most of your buyers want to pay. The problem with 'send to my UPI ID' is everything that happens after: waiting for a screenshot, checking your bank app, matching the amount to a chat, and deciding whether a blurry image is real.
A store fixes both versions. With UPI to your UPI ID, the amount is fixed by the cart, the reference arrives on the order, and orders without proof expire on their own. With a gateway, the buyer pays inside the checkout and the order arrives already paid.
UPI in DMs vs UPI on your store
| Question | UPI ID in a chat, screenshot back | UPI on your Slaby store |
|---|---|---|
| The amount | Typed by the buyer — wrong or partial amounts happen | Fixed by the cart; the UPI app opens with the exact amount |
| Proof of payment | A screenshot somewhere in the chat | The UTR and screenshot attached to the order — or no proof needed with a gateway |
| The same UTR twice | Easy to miss | A UTR already used on another order is refused |
| Buyers who never pay | Orders sit in your chat | Orders without proof are cancelled after the time you set, and the stock goes back on sale |
| Order and payment matched | By hand, from chat to notebook | On the same order record |
| Cost | Free | UPI to your UPI ID: free. Gateway: its processing fee. Slaby adds 0% either way |
What you need to accept UPI on your store
- A UPI ID linked to the bank account you want paid (for example yourshop@okaxis)
- The habit of checking your bank app before approving a UPI order
- Optional, for automatic confirmation and cards: a Razorpay or Cashfree account with KYC approved
- Your store's policy pages live (gateways check for refund and contact pages)
- A test order paid with a small amount from your own phone
- A decision on COD for buyers who will not pay online
What you get
UPI paid into your own account
Checkout shows your UPI QR and an 'open UPI app' button with the exact amount. The buyer sends the UTR or a screenshot, and the order waits for your approval.

The UTR and screenshot sit on the order. Approve after checking your bank app, or reject and the stock goes back on sale.
Automatic confirmation with a gateway
Connect your own Razorpay or Cashfree account and UPI, cards and net banking are confirmed automatically — no proof to check.

Keep COD for buyers who insist, or ask for a part payment online first and the balance on delivery.

How to start taking UPI on your store
Turn on UPI to your bank
In your store's payment settings, switch on 'Accept UPI to your bank' and enter your UPI ID exactly as your bank app shows it.
Choose the proof you want
Ask for the 12-digit UTR, a screenshot, or either one, and set how long an order waits for proof before it is cancelled.
Place a test order
Buy something cheap from your own phone, pay from your UPI app and send the UTR. Check it appears on the order in your admin.
Approve against your bank app
Open your bank app, find the credit with that UTR and amount, then approve the order. Never approve from a screenshot alone.
Add a gateway when you are ready
Sign up with Razorpay or Cashfree in your own name. Their KYC asks for PAN, bank details and your store link — publish your policy pages first.
Connect the gateway in Slaby
Paste the live API keys and add the webhook address Slaby shows you, so payments confirm even if the buyer closes the tab.

Questions sellers ask
- Can my website take UPI payments without a payment gateway?
- Yes. At checkout the buyer pays your own UPI ID and sends the transaction reference (UTR) or a screenshot. The order waits while you match that payment in your bank app, then you approve it. Add Razorpay or Cashfree later if you want payments confirmed automatically instead of by hand.
- Does the UPI money come to me?
- Yes. UPI to your own UPI ID goes straight to your bank account. Through Razorpay or Cashfree it is paid into your own gateway account and settled to your bank on their schedule. Slaby is not in the money flow and takes 0% commission.
- Should I use my UPI ID or a gateway?
- Your UPI ID costs nothing and needs no KYC, but you approve each order after checking your bank app. A gateway charges a processing fee and needs KYC, but confirms every payment automatically and adds cards and net banking. Many sellers start with their UPI ID and add a gateway as orders grow.
- What does a gateway charge?
- Each gateway sets its own processing fee; check Razorpay's or Cashfree's current pricing. Slaby adds nothing on top of it.
- How long does gateway approval take?
- It depends on the gateway and your documents — usually a few working days. Take UPI to your own UPI ID, or COD, while you wait.
- How do I avoid fake payment screenshots?
- Approve only after you see the credit in your bank app with the same UTR and amount. Slaby shows you the UTR and amount on the order, refuses a UTR already used on another order, and cancels orders that never send proof.
- Do buyers need a UPI app on the same phone?
- No. On a phone they can tap their UPI app; on a laptop the checkout can show a QR code to scan, or they can enter their UPI ID and approve the request.
- How do refunds work for UPI orders?
- Refund the payment from your gateway dashboard; it goes back to the buyer's source.
- Is it safe for buyers?
- The payment happens on the gateway's checkout, which is regulated and secure. Buyers never type card or bank details into a chat.
- Can I take part payment by UPI and the rest on delivery?
- Yes. Set a partial COD advance — for example 20% online — and the buyer pays that at checkout and the rest in cash on delivery.
