You have outgrown Instagram DMs when replying takes longer than making what you sell.
DM selling works beautifully at five orders a week. At fifty, the inbox becomes the job: unread requests, buyers who were promised a piece someone else paid for, and addresses lost in a chat you cannot find.
None of that is a sign to post less. It is a sign that the order-taking part needs to stop depending on you being online.
Signs you have outgrown DMs — and what a store changes
| Question | In your DMs today | With a store |
|---|---|---|
| Unanswered 'price?' messages | Pile up overnight | Price is on the product page |
| Same piece promised twice | Happens when two chats move at once | Stock is held when the order is placed; the second buyer cannot check out |
| Finding an old order | Search chats by name | Search orders by name, phone or order number |
| Help from someone else | They need your phone | Add a staff member with their own login |
| Knowing what sells | A feeling | Sales and top-product reports |
| 'Any update?' messages | One per order, answered by hand | Buyers track with the order number and phone, no account |
| Taking a day off | Orders stop | Orders keep coming in |
You have probably outgrown DMs if…
- You reply to the same three questions more than ten times a day
- You keep a notebook or spreadsheet just to track who paid
- You have sold an item that was already sold
- Buyers ask 'any update?' because there is no tracking to share
- You cannot take a weekend off without losing orders
- Someone else would help you, but your inbox is on your phone
- You have a drop coming and dread the DMs it will create

How to move from DM selling to a store without losing buyers
List what sells most first
Put your bestsellers and current stock on the store this week. A complete catalogue can come later.
Answer the top questions on the page
Write delivery time, COD rules and exchange terms into the product description and policies, in the words you use in DMs.
Switch the bio link
Point your bio link at the store and add a line saying orders are now placed there.
Announce the change once, clearly
Post a story and a pinned post explaining the new way to order, with a screen recording of a checkout.
Reply to DMs with links
Keep answering DMs, but end every reply with the product's link instead of 'send your address'.
Move regulars gently
For loyal buyers, walk them through their first store order over a call or chat; after that they will order on their own.
Run the next drop on the store
Launch your next collection on the store first and post the link. Limited stock will sell out fairly, in checkout order.
Questions sellers ask
- Will I lose buyers if I stop taking orders in DMs?
- Not if you keep answering DMs and simply reply with links. Most buyers prefer seeing the price and stock without asking; the ones who need help still get a person.
- How many orders before a store is worth it?
- There is no magic number. If you spend more time confirming orders than making or sourcing what you sell, it is time.
- Can a helper manage orders without my Instagram password?
- Yes. Add them as staff in the store admin with their own login and the permissions they need. Your Instagram stays with you.
- How do I stop selling the same piece twice during a drop?
- Track stock on each product and enter the exact count. Units are held the moment an order is placed, so the last piece goes to whoever checks out first.
- What about buyers who already paid in DMs?
- Finish those orders the old way. Start every new order on the store, so from that day on all your orders are in one list.
- Can I still give a regular customer a special price?
- Yes. Create a coupon code for them, or for wholesale buyers, approve them for trade prices that only they see.
- Do I need a computer to run the store?
- No. The admin works on a phone and can be installed to your home screen like an app.
- What does it cost to move?
- Try it free for 14 days with no card. After that Lite is ₹299 a month for up to 20 products, with 0% commission. Move to a bigger plan when you need more products, staff seats or your own domain.
- Can I move my product list from another tool?
- Yes, with a CSV import. Our guide to moving from DM-selling tools shows how.
